A Milestone - Financing SMEs in Ethiopia via Private Banks and MFIs

A Milestone - Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE), Government owned development financier, has for the first time financed a Quarter of A Billion Birr to local financial institutions to alleviate the financial constraints of Small & Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to growth and job creation. 4 local banks and 4 MFIs were selected to disseminate the loans to SMEs, based on their proposals taking into account their loan and profit portfolios, performance and their experiences.The World Bank and European Investment Bank (EIB) supported the fund.
